For more than four decades, Kristin O’Connell’s family and community supporters have refused to let her 1985 murder go cold, and new forensic technology may finally help answer what happened to her. Kristin was 20 years old when she was killed while visiting Ovid, New York in August 1985, and her case remains one of New York’s oldest unsolved homicides. Investigators have preserved physical evidence from the scene that has never been tested with today’s advanced DNA technology, the kind that has helped crack hundreds of cold cases nationwide.
Kristin’s mother, Phyllis O’Connell, started a fundraiser to help cover the cost of that testing, and dozens of donors have already stepped forward to support the effort. The fundraiser has raised $4,640 toward its $10,000 goal so far. Kristin’s family says they will never stop fighting for the justice she deserves.
